Kinja'd!!!

Is it even possible to do this all again? To stand as one userbase and tell G/O Media that they need us more than we need them ?

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Or am I much too late? Is this a battle we shouldn’t fight anymore ? And is our refuge ready?

If there’s a big enough chance then we should seize it, act, show those herbs that we’re what built Kinja and Gizmodo Media.

I am not sure that “we are staying” is the message we want to send this time. Because that sort of implies “even if you turn this site to shit, we’ll be here.”

If you basically copy that 2016 post and substitute Univision for Great Hill Partners? Sure.

If that post is just a bunch of Herb comments? No. Thus far, every popular post calling the owners Herbs has resulted in the hosting blog being deleted and some people getting banned from all FPs. They're very serious about controlling the Herb message.

I dunno what else to say that hasn’t already been said. And I fear that the powers that be are in such an overly defensive mental state, that there’s no turning back now. They’re willing to lose their own writers ; they’re certainly willing to lose us too.

And they seem to think that t aking away user blogs is going to push us to spend more time clicking on the main sites. I think it’s going to have the opposite effect, pushing a lot of us away from Kinja altogether. I don’t want to do that to the remaining writers, but I find myself very discouraged by the whole mess .

I’m taking their main sites out of my RSS reader, which is how I get to everything. Out of sight, out of mind. I hate it.

That’s the difference, isn’t it? Univision at least had the sense to realize what they have, which meant they had the capacity to listen . G/O Media do not, at fucking all. It’s why I’m flash-archiving everything dear to me here (not all but you get the idea). This was my home before I finally hit college. And these punks destroyed it.

It doesn’t really m atter what we want. They’re willing to nuke the place just to make a point. Probably be st not to get into a pissing match with them if you like posting here.

In all honesty, if the owners cared that much about what goes on here, we wouldn’t be discussing leaving at all. They don’t even understand the team of staff that they acquired, nor do they care to. The more this goes on, the more I think this latest acquisition has political motives, as you can see them soft-shoe around idea of shutting down user pages, now that they realize they could lose their pre-existing army of click-generators (aka, us).

No; as much as I have taken the wait-and-see approach thru all the other Gawkerpocalypses, that usually amounted to needless Kinja revisions and axing of some very talented people, this one reeks of political agenda and censorship, and I think its time to move on. Someone much smarter than me once said something like,”Those who choose security over freedom deserve neither” (I probably butchered that quote). Well, Those who acquire Gawker, and choose censorship over respecting the staff and reader-base, also deserve neither, and can GTFAC (let’s see if they can suss that one out).

Which is patently dumb. Then again, they don’t seem to want to put in the effort to know what Kinja and its userbase really is capable of, it isn’t much of a surprise, merely a disappointment.
